
Prime Minister highlights Assam’s rapid economic growth, investment potential, and role in India’s development.
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Advantage Assam 2.0 Investment & Infrastructure Summit 2025 in Guwahati, emphasizing Assam’s transformation into a leading investment destination. The summit, aimed at showcasing Assam’s industrial potential, economic growth, and investment opportunities, is being attended by policymakers, global investors, and industry leaders.

PM Modi highlighted Assam’s rapid economic expansion, stating that the state’s economy has doubled from ₹2.75 lakh crore in 2018 to nearly ₹6 lakh crore in 2024. He credited this growth to improved infrastructure, policy reforms, and investments in industries, connectivity, and innovation. Assam is now on track to become a $150 billion economy by 2030, he added.
He praised Assam’s role in India’s Make in India initiative, particularly in low-cost manufacturing, electronics, and automobile sectors. He also underscored Assam’s emergence as a key hub for semiconductor manufacturing, citing the Tata Semiconductor Assembly & Test facility in Jagiroad as a milestone.
PM Modi highlighted massive investments in Assam’s connectivity infrastructure, including the construction of four new bridges over the Brahmaputra in the past decade, such as the Bhupen Hazarika Bridge, compared to just three bridges before 2014. He also noted Assam’s railway budget increase from ₹2,100 crore (2009-2014) to ₹10,000 crore now, with over 60 railway stations being modernized. Air connectivity has expanded from seven routes in 2014 to nearly 30 routes today, boosting tourism and business.
The Prime Minister announced the North East Transformative Industrialization Scheme, ‘Unnati’, aimed at accelerating industry, investment, and tourism across the region. He urged global and domestic investors to leverage Assam’s strategic location, natural resources, and skilled workforce. Assam continues to be a leader in natural gas production, contributing over 50% of India’s onshore natural gas output. The recent approval of the Namrup-4 urea plant will further enhance Assam’s industrial capacity.
PM Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to green energy, stating that the world sees India’s Renewable Energy Mission as a model. India aims to add 500 GW of renewable energy capacity and produce 5 million metric tons of green hydrogen annually by 2030. He encouraged Assam to emerge as a leader in renewable energy and sustainable industries.

Emphasizing India’s role in global digital transformation, PM Modi outlined the Government’s push towards semiconductor manufacturing and tech-driven industries. Assam’s growing semiconductor sector and partnerships with IIT for research and innovation are positioning it as a technological hub.
PM Modi concluded by inviting global investors to participate in Assam’s economic growth, assuring full support from the Government. He emphasized that Assam will play a key role in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
The two-day Advantage Assam 2.0 Summit (Feb 25-26, 2025) includes an inaugural session with global investors and policymakers, seven ministerial and 14 thematic sessions, and exhibitions showcasing Assam’s economic progress, featuring 240+ exhibitors.
The event was attended by Governor of Assam Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Shri Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Ministers Dr. S Jaishankar, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, and other dignitaries.
