Marseille, February 12, 2025 – Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron jointly inaugurated the Consulate General of India in Marseille today. The event was attended by members of the Indian community and local officials.
The decision to open the consulate was announced during Prime Minister Modi’s visit to France in July 2023. The new consulate will have jurisdiction over four French regions: Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, Corsica, Occitanie, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes.
Marseille is an important center for trade, industry, energy, and tourism with growing ties to India. The consulate is expected to strengthen economic, cultural, and people-to-people connections.
During the event, Prime Minister Modi and President Macron interacted with the Indian diaspora, who had gathered to mark the occasion. The consulate will provide consular services to Indian nationals and businesses in the region.
